Rule #2: Be realistic

But once you do, trust me, you will be very happy with the results.

Rule #3: It’s about people

As I’ve mentioned before, it is absolutely necessary that you be prepared to speak to and connect with people. Be prepared to pick up the phone and call someone you have never spoken to before. . I have been there before and trust me; this is not one of the best parts of running your own businesses. In fact, the very thought of making those calls gives me some odd mix between stage fright and car sickness, but it gets better with time. It especially gets better when you get paid. You may even grow to love it.

However if the notion of speaking and networking with people will stop you from following your quest to home business ownership, there are some approaches that will ensure the process runs effortlessly and will not bring much apprehension. I would recommend:

Work with a template. I write a little clip about myself and my business on a note card and keep it with me at all times, so if I’m in the middle of something and receive a business call, I can jump right into my monologue and get crackin’. It works wonders! My name, my business, what I do, and a little note on how I can help that person (if I know why they are calling). Magical.

Rule #4: Spend some money initially

Yep, back to #1. You have to spend money to earn money. Business is not free. There are certain things people look for to establish you are a legitimate business. For starters a website is a must have investment and depending on the kind of business you are in, you might have to buy training programs or classes more so if the business needs some form of certification. Personally, my biggest investment is in motivational material. For me, motivational material is my most significant investment. It keeps me focused, motivated, organized and determined. It’s the cheapest, most effective way to keep your focus fixed to achieving your financial goals.

With all this in mind, it may not even need to be said: You have to really want this. You have to really love being your own boss. You have to really need to make your own schedule. You have to be ready to stick it out with your business of choice for a minimum of six months to a year prior to getting results. You must have a huge desire to change your circumstances to make a home-based business work.

You’re putting in time, money, creative effort, comfort zone, and so on. But if you can make it work, if you have the drive and the zeal to make it work, running a home business is definitely one of the most fulfilling jobs you can have.

Before selecting any marketing strategy, it’s best to set up your marketing funnel. Make sure whichever option you go for, that it highlights your “Squeeze Page” otherwise also known as your “Opt In” page, so you can generate leads from your Video Marketing.

1. You can shoot underwater while scuba diving or make a video while on the shores of an ocean or in your car or the garden, in your pool, the backyard, when you are skiing or travelling or even during your holiday.

2. The audience to know you in a video, so you will begin to build your brand.

3. You can reach more people with a video than you can by speaking one on one with people. It is similar to being in a seminar or at a conference, but you don’t have to be afraid because no-one is looking at you while you’re filming.

4. Creating videos is totally free if you have a camera and also nothing to post online if you are already connected to the internet, it is absolutely free.

5. Since people transfer them around to others, videos can become viral.

6. Taking videos and posting them online is not a technical thing to do.

7. You can show to an individual or millions of people, how to perform a task on the computer. Just take a video of yourself performing that task. Use some free software called Jing to capture 5 minute videos or use Camtasia for longer videos.

8. Your videos can attract a lot of visitors to your website. These can create many leads for your business.

Short videos or Long ones?

Because people are busy and can’t always watch a long video, you can do really short 1-2 minute videos that provide people with information to help them solve a problem. In these clips you may choose to feature relationship marketing for instance or maybe go into the effectiveness of online marketing. Always put your Squeeze Page URL and a call to action, underneath your video.

It is best if you are in front of the camera. However if you are unable to bring yourself to do it the first time, there are other alternatives to make videos.

Here are six different ways you can create your own videos:

- Create slides using something like Microsoft PowerPoint or the equivalent on a Macintosh, and add music or your own voice as background. Save the slides as images then import them into a movie maker software. PCs and Macintoshes come with free movie maker programs that will help you develop movies that you can upload onto the internet. Slides come in handy and make great clips, especially for those of you who are camera shy.

- There are software programs that you can use to have your face showing up on a corner of the screen as is common with educational videos. Add some background music to the photos or add your own voice and you have another video.

- There are Software programs that permit you to capture your actions on the computer to make educational video. You can choose to show your face in a small corner of the screen or not to show your face at all.

- Go down the beach with a friend and just say hello and talk about the beautiful views and the waves. It is a great way to begin on those ‘showing your face’ videos. This is similar to the first video my hubby and I did below.

- If you are a scuba diver, or a keen sportsperson, get someone to video tape you. When you get home, you can use that tape to make a movie with your voice in the background passing on your message to your audience.

- Do an interview with an industry leader and ask them questions as you are recording them.

Remember there are limitless ways you can do your videos, just let your creativity take control of you and enjoy it.

Here are a couple of pointers to put in mind before you begin your project:

- Keep all videos less than 10 minutes. Most video broadcast sites accept short videos.

- Create an image to insert into each end of the video. On the image, type the title of your video and your website URL, with a call to action. This way, people can go to your website after watching the video, and you will generate your own leads. For example, this is a picture I use in most of my videos..

- Movie Creation software will permit you to insert a watermark on your videos. The watermark should be your website URL or your phone number in some situations.

- You can submit your video to multiple different video broadcasting sites like You Tube, Google Videos, Viddler, Dailymotion, Photobucket just to mention a few.

One of the reasons why I believe MLM gets a bad name and is accused of hype – is that MLM or network marketing is promoted to the wrong people about 80% of the time. It’s promoted as a part-time work at home job to people who really just want a steady pay and flexible hours.

1) Network marketing is not a job. It is a business system for entrepreneurs who want to have their businesses at home instead of another location, like an office. The vast majority of networkers still promote MLM as “You can make thousands of dollars in just a few hours a week”! You can do that…just not right away. Depending on your company, your experience, budget, and business system that could take 90 days or 9 months. People who want at-home jobs expect to be paid a set amount of money every week. It’s called a paycheck, not an override.

2) A home business takes heart, energy, perservence and a degree of risk. In a business, you are responsible for your success, no one else. A work at home job takes only time and energy. People wanting at-home jobs are not prepared for the responsibility of a business because it’s not what they want. All the motivational tapes and contests will not matter if they don’t want it in the first place.

3) Why doesn’t your new distributor want to make a prospect list? Probably because a home job doesn’t require him/her to create his/her own work by creating a client base. How does a person convince another that their home based business is the best thing out there? How do you know who to believe when every online business is advertised as “the best thing since sliced bread”?

Now, I have never been a big fan of sliced bread. (Maybe that has something to do with me having to carry a sandwich to school in my Micky Mouse lunch box for so many years…I\’m not sure.) But the point I\’m trying to make is this. The best thing out there for one person, may not be the best thing for the next person.

But what makes a great home business? Is it the the guy with the website showing a mansion, fancy car and the sexy woman throwing hundred dollar bills in the air? Probably not, but how many of us have fallen for that one? Maybe it\’s the perfect home business with that “last chance to sign up” offer. The one that rushes you into joining his network marketing business before you have the chance to figure out the pyramid scam.

Or could it be the “fast talker ” on the phone, who talks you into believing his mlm business is worth the $999 start up fee? Maybe it\’s that determined guy that has you on his auto responder for 90 days of continuous emails, that has the #1 home based business. (That\’s what he\’s been telling you, so it must be true.)

It\’s a shame that the majority of people seeking a home business opportunity first believe that you can get rich overnight. And there is no one more guilty of that , then me. It all looks good on paper, the website, the email, and sounds great over the phone. Until you\’ve paid your start up cost, and “your sponsor” is off to “sponsor” his next, leaving you wondering what just happened to your new best friend.

Most people have to first go through an experience or two, or three, like thist before realizing it\’s up to you to first check out the company, the founder, the compensation plan, the fine print and more.

But…getting back to my origional question. How does a person convince another that their home based business is the best thing out there? You can\’t…or at least, you shouldn\’t. I believe the reputation of the company should speak for itself. After you do your research, review the compensation plan, considering the longevity potential, the industry you\’ll be invoved with, and speak with a representative of the company…you should get your answer. To be honest with you, I don\’t even care to have a person on my team that has to be talked into joining. This person will more than likely never see the company potential, and will drop out in a month.

Now you may be wondering what I\’m trying to sell? The answer is nothing…to those that I haven\’t connected with, have already quit reading, because they do not want to hear the truth. But if you have an interest in what has been working for that average person out there, I recommend you take a look at this opportunity.
