How To Start Your MLM Home Business

by OnBehalfOf on March 10, 2010

The single greatest opportunity to work from home, and create your home business is working with multi level marketing (MLM).

Working at home can give you the freedom you want and the income that you deserve! You can be there for your family, make your own hours, and have limitless free time. A work at home MLM business opportunity can be very attractive but you must be careful to select one that works for you.

In this article, I will teach you a few things I have learned from MLM as well some great tips go grow your business from the ground up.

For one thing, technology can become an amazing tool. Computers have improved customer service, and relationships with MLM workers and commissions can be utilized in ways not possible before.

This massive business model started in the 1950′s with nutritional supplements, household products, and cosmetics. It can be noted that MLM opportunities boomed in the 1980′s with insurance and long-distance telephone services.

As the twenty-first century approached, improvements in technology really helped the MLM industry explode to a billion dollar industry.

The industry has expanded into credit cards, travel, products, services and pre-paid legal services already. MLM opportunities can adapt as technology evolves.

The combination of technology and old-fashioned salesmanship makes MLM popular for everyone including those in the business world. You can earn money from the down line of your recruits’ sales and their recruits’ with residual income. This means, you will even make money in your sleep!

There is no overhead if you work at home, and advertising can be based on word of mouth. There is no warehouse,no expenses, no accounting involved. You do not have to see the customer, and the product is shipped to them. MLM has acquired a bad reputation through media reports, but many companies including mainstream ones do it legally and successfully.

Take note friend. When selecting a MLM business opportunity for your own, look for one that has been in the business for a number of years. Pay attention to many scams are often fly-by-night operations.

But this does not mean that you have to avoid younger companies. Look carefully before you take a leap of faith. Make sure that they have a good training program in place, a fair compensation plan worked out and products that have already been tested for quite some time.

The ultimate home-based MLM opportunity has three qualities; control of time and money, continual salary, and steady growth that multiplies. By trying to control your time, you can reap from your efforts. Remember one thing, even your time has a price.

When comparing MLM opportunities, think of yourself first. Choose a business that fits your interests and talents. Don’t think you can be molded to fit others. Examine what you want and the one that is fitting to your knowledge and background. Take time to select the MLM opportunity that is perfect for you.

Many who become involved in a MLM business start out on a part time basis. This is a wise advice for everyone considering the opportunity to get into self-employment. Keeping your day job will insure income to meet your household and buy you enough time to get the business established. Even if you are making 15,000 a month it would still be a good idea to make sure your business has a solid foundation before you quit

your day job. Also, by keeping your current ties in the business world, you can attract them as customers to the new endeavor you wish to take.

One more thing, MLM opportunities are waiting for your first chance to grab them. When choosing, always consider how well is their training program? Do they offer marketing materials? Do they offer trainings, tools and resources to help build your business?

If you are looking for the ultimate business-building system, consider using a lead generation marketing model system. A MLM lead generation marketing system is recommended as they allow you run your business virtually on auto-pilot.

cake decorators: how did you prepare and start your home business?
did you start by making cakes for friends/relatives for free?
Later How did you decide how much to charge for the cakes (weight of cake? etc)

Love to hear how you started so that I can learn from your experiences. Any tips, advice are appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!

Well you want to make sure your cakes are good enough to sell by giving a few to friends and relatives. But remember, they may not come out and say "this isn’t good" because they don’t want to hurt your feelings. Make cakes for all occasions and if your at a party and someone asks who did the cake, take credit and hand them a business card.

Do you have a local cake decorating supply store in town that sells cake supplies (pans, tips, pillars, coloring, etc) – if so see if they allow your business card or a cake picture you’ve done w/ your business card and any professional classes you may have taken or experience. Once you get a name for yourself you won’t need all this, but if your new, word of mouth is best.

Ask a grocery store to allow you to set up a table with pictures but a cake you made, and can give out samples, using their products of course. only if they don’t do cakes themselves!

Price by the job – regular 9 inch b-day cakes -1 price, 2 layers – another price, sheet pans- another price etc.

Good Luck, hard business to make a name in, but can get good money if doing wedding cakes.

I started by making cakes for friends and family as gifts, then on request. I then started to charge at cost, and when I started to get calls fro complete strangers, I began to charge double to cost (professionals are usually triple the cost!). My name is starting to get known now, and I have just been asked for my 4th wedding cake! Always take photos of finished cakes and build a portfolio to show people what you are capable of!

All the best with your business!

I started with a course at my local community college that taught me everything I needed to know about setting up a business but Michael’s has a good course that is cheeper. Then I set up a brag book and took pictures of all the cakes I decorated for family and friends. I donated many to the local Veteran’s Associations for fund raisers and the word got out that I made good cakes. I experimented with adding alcohols to the cakes and Icings and produced the best tasting chocolate chambourd cake a person could eat and couldn’t get anywhere else and the word got out.
