The introduction of the multilevel marketing (MLM) system into the United States market in the early 1940s brought about a lot of controversies. A lot of people thought that it is impossible to set up community based distribution outlets for products and that the MLM system was bound to fail before it can even hit its target market.

After more than 60 years after it was first introduced, the MLM system is still very much alive in the country. In fact, a good number of people who took advantage of the MLM business opportunity earned good money. According to experts, there are a few people who became quite rich because of this system.

The advancement of technology brought the MLM business opportunity to a new plane. Where the traditional MLM business opportunity would require the distributor to physically sell the products of the company to his or her clients, now, he or she can sell the products of the company online and still earn commissions.

Furthermore, if an MLM member would like to build his or her own network, he or she can recruit members of his or her team online. Product orientations are also done online so there is less pressure on the part of the member to physically bring his or her recruits to the company’s training sessions.

Now, just because you can now work on MLM business opportunity online doesn’t mean that you can become rich overnight. Always bear in mind that selling products and building teams take time. You need to invest a lot of time and effort to get things going. For instance, if you want to build your team online, you should always keep in touch with your recruits and let them know that you are really to help them in any way you can.

You need to constantly update then of the activities of your team and encourage then to work on their business. Always remember that the MLM system is designed to work best when your team is strong and your sales are high. The more people who generate sales from your team, the higher income you will have.

How can you maintain close contact with your recruits online? If you want to make the most out of an MLM business opportunity, you should at least have a computer with a fast internet connection. Use your computer to send emails to members of your team. Having an instant messaging system will also help you a lot in maintaining active communication with the members of your team. You may also write newsletters which you can send to members of your team. News letters are effective when it comes to keeping the members of your team abreast with the latest developments of the company.

    I am searching for an online home based business opportunity. What is the best Internet based business for me?
    I am in the process of doing my "homework" for finding a legitimate online home based business. First, this is what I will NOT even consider:

    1) MLM
    2) Get rich fast or overnight schemes that have all the stupid fake testimonials, screen shots of pay pal accounts overflowing with money, and websites with pictures of mansions and piles of cash.
    3) Cash gifting
    4) One page landing page pitches that ask you to "take a leap of faith."

    This is what I WILL consider:

    1) An online business or affiliate program that has a reputable track record that can be verified.
    2) Building my own PERSONALIZED website (no turnkey websites) having a legitimate product or service that is profitable and popular.
    3) A home based business that has a solid business model that can be duplicated.

    I realize starting an online business will take time, money and work. And as I said before – I’m performing "due diligence" and I want to keep my start up costs under $800 (is this possible?). What are my best home based business options considering what I’ve laid out here?
